Nesta hora de tantas preocupações, desgostos e talvez dúvidas para ti,
envio-te este trecho de uma carta da Irmã Lúcia, a vidente de Fátima,
que acabo de receber. Deve levar-te muita consolação e confiança. E se
tu a lesses toda, mais consolado e confiado ficarias ainda. Escuso de
dizer que isto que ela diz, o não diz dela mesma, mas por indicação
divina (segunda ela deixa entender). Tenho pressa em to fazer chegar
às mãos.

Em cima, extracto de carta escrita pela Irmã Lúcia ao Bispo de Leiria. Dessa carta é desconhecido o paradeiro.

Em baixo, nota manuscrita que o então  Cardeal de Lisboa, Manuel Cerejeira, escreveu a António Salazar, após ter conhecimento da carta de Lúcia. Salazar manifestara dúvidas a Cerejeira sobre a possível recandidatura, e resultado, das eleições seguintes, que ocorreriam a 18 de Novembro desse ano. Este documento está no Arquivo Nacional da Torre do Tombo. 

A carta de Lúcia terá sido “extremamente oportuna” (nota minha) no dissipar dessas dúvidas. O milagre de Fátima é absolutamente relevante para a interpretação da História política, social e cultural do séc. XX e XXI português.

In this hour of so many worries, disappointments and perhaps doubts for you, I send you this excerpt from a letter from Sister Lúcia, the seer of Fátima, that I just received. It must bring you a lot of consolation and confidence. And if you read it all, the more comforted and trusted you would be. I don’t need to tell you that what she says doesn’t come from herself but from divine indication (according to what she says). I’m in a hurry to make it arrive to your hands.

Above, an extract from an missive written by Sister Lúcia and sent to the Bishop of Leiria. Below, based on this letter, the then Cardinal of Lisbon, Manuel Cerejeira, wrote to António Salazar, the then portuguese president of the dictatorship, about the doubts that the latter had expressed to him, over the possible re-election and results of the following elections, that took place in 18 November 1945. This last excerpt was taken from a document filed at the National Archive of Torre do Tombo. There is no knowledge where Lucia’s letter might be stored.
